Workshop: This Is not a Writers Workshop is the art of writing poetry, fiction, non-fiction and discovering the things you like, or don’t like in the process.
The course runs for 6 weeks for paid subscribers only. A yearly subscription will give you access to this online (zoom) which starts Thursday 25 April.
You’ll have access to the poetry, writing and prompts on the Writer Pilgrim site and also the full archive here on Substack plus the poetry podcast Writer Pilgrim Sounds. So for the duration of your subscription you get all access and free zoom TINAWW classes.
This is what you get on the course:
To attend 6 live sessions on zoom 1,5hrs per week, starting Thursday 25 April.
The course is about writing and/or unblocking the creative flow. I hate to break it, but there is no thing as imagination, or imagination only. Writing is a practice you can cultivate and improve. This workshop will show you how.
I will incorporate tips and techniques how you start/improve your writing and how you approach writing. You will benefit from this workshop whatever writing you do: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, journaling, novel etc.
We will look at how
to write and how to get on with it
to write without judging and without editing every single line as you write
to write without worrying too much
to find imagination
to find our voice
know if it’s any good…
The workshop is a writer’s training and I call it this is not a writers workshop because it is a journey, a pilgrimage where you may discover more than the art of creative writing. In the sessions, you will participate in giving and receiving constructive feedback and there will be prompts and exercises to get you writing. It’s great if you share your writing, these are first drafts, incomplete pieces and feedback given and received helps us grow as writers.
Ideally, you will need to share, you cannot sit by and silently listen to the others. It’s informal, there’s no recording and what is said in the group, stays in the group and as always any work you create share (verbally) is yours.
TINAWW This Is not a Writers Workshop is about stamping out self-doubt and learning to write without worrying too much about it.
If you’re a seasoned writer you may benefit from getting structure, having dedicated weekly time to write and enjoying the social aspect and for writing to prompts in order to expand your expertise and work on topics you normally wouldn’t have tried before. If you’re new to writing, you’d want to join because you want to dabble in poetry, writing or journaling and want to demystify the creative process and have a go at starting writing.
You will need to be able to communicate in English, have pen and paper handy, a device and internet with zoom ability. If you want to write in another language you can of course and the techniques we use are applicable to any language, but we may not be able to give you the deserved feedback on other languages.
We practice on improving discipline to our writing, whether you write songs, poems, draw, sketch or write short stories.
The sessions are not about showcasing published work, yes we will celebrate that too but we are working on improving the ability of creating new writing and find the discipline to do so daily, frequently in our lives so we look at the glass as half full and not half empty.
The secret is in the art of writing without worrying about it. Just write This Is not a Writers Workshop in your diaries and make room for a new skill and change to enrich and embrace your life.
At the end of the day, you and only you can express your experience and ideas. We all have our unique voices and stories to tell. I’m here to guide you get them on the page. After practicing a year of writing a poem/story daily, I now want to share my practice with you, even though you may write in other genres, the method is the same.
Start writing and the story you want to tell will appear and let you shine in your unique ways.
