Workshop: This Is not a Writers Workshop is the art of writing poetry, fiction, non-fiction and discovering the things you like, or don’t like in the process.
The course runs for 6 weeks and is free for those on the yearly paid subscription plan or foundation membership. A yearly subscription will give you access to this online (zoom) which starts Thursday 20 June. Hit the subscribe button below if you want to join.
You’ll have access to the poetry, writing and prompts on the Writer Pilgrim site, the full archive here on Substack plus the poetry podcast Writer Pilgrim Sounds. Your yearly paid subscription membership will give you full access to this publication and this free online zoom TINAWW course.
This is what you get on the course:
To attend 6 live sessions on zoom 1,5hrs per week, starting Thursday 20 June.
The course is about writing and/or unblocking creative flows. I hate to break it, but there’s no thing as imagination only or writer’s block. Writing is a practice you can cultivate and improve. This workshop will show you how to rely on you instead of imagination and how to rely on your ability to write instead of using writer’s block blaming.
I will incorporate tips and techniques how you start/improve your writing and how you approach writing. You will benefit from this workshop whatever writing you do: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, journaling, novel and journalism.
We will look at how to
write without judging and without editing every single line you write
write without worrying too much
find imagination
find your voice and express it
know if it’s any good…
use prompts
use different writing techniques
create regular pieces of writing
find confidence
discover new things and new things about you
just write and get on with it
manifest
find continuity
allow yourself to be creative
boost your writing practice
be present and mindful
At the end of the course, we’ll have your back. As long as we are here on Substack and our community is allowed to exist on this platform, the expectation is that you continue to write, post and you will have the support of other writers and creatives on here to further build on your own platform should you wish to. I run writing challenges and a social hangout called SPAWN where you can join, further your skills and meet others for ideas and support. So you don’t need to disappear into the ether after the course, unless that’s your plan. We have your back, if that’s what you want. The workshop is a writer’s training called this is not a writers workshop because it’s a journey, a pilgrimage where you may discover more than the art of creative writing.
In the sessions, you’ll write and participate in giving and receiving constructive feedback. It’s great if you share your writing, these are first drafts, incomplete pieces and feedback helps us grow as writers.
It’s informal, there’s no recording and what is said in the group, stays in the group and as always any work you create and share (in the group) is yours. What are you waiting for? Hit the subscribe button, choose the yearly paid subscription option or if you’re feeling generous the founding membership is an option and join on the 20 July.
TINAWW This Is not a Writers Workshop is about stamping out self-doubt and learning to write without worrying too much about it.
If you’re a seasoned writer you may benefit from getting a boost and structure, having dedicated weekly time to write and enjoying the social aspect and for writing to prompts in order to expand your expertise and work on topics you normally wouldn’t have tried before. If you’re new to writing, you’d want to join because you want to explore poetry, writing or journaling and want to demystify the creative process and have a go at starting writing.
You will need to be able to communicate in English, have pen and paper handy, a device and internet with Zoom ability. If you want to write in another language you can of course and the techniques we use are applicable to any language, but we may not be able to give you the deserved feedback if you present us with work which is not in English.
We practice on improving discipline to our writing, whether you write songs, poems, draw, sketch or write stories or non-fiction.
The sessions are not about showcasing published work, yes we will celebrate that too but we are working on improving the ability of creating new writing and the discipline to do so regularly.
The secret is in the art of writing without worrying about it. Just write This Is not a Writers Workshop in your diaries and make room for a new skill to enrich your life.At the end of the day, you and only you can express your experiences and ideas. We all have our unique voices and stories to tell. I’m here to guide you get them on the page. After practicing a year of writing a poem/story daily, I now want to share my practice with you, even though you may write in other genres, the method is the same. I have 30 years of journalism experience, being a teacher and communicator, lecturer and poet. I’d say you’re in pretty much good hands.
Start writing and the story you want to tell will appear and let you shine in your unique ways.
