Here's my tribute to Depeche Mode, who are always part of my daily soundtrack:

Welcome to my world,

My favourite stranger.

Walking in my shoes-

I feel you.

The love thieves

In your room

Shine.

When the body speaks,

I feel loved.

I want it all.

The sinner in me,

Precious.

Speak to me,

Before we drown.

Love, in itself,

Sacred.

Perfect.

Home.

Tali, this reads like whispered confession in a dim room lit only by synth glow and the pulse of memory. You've distilled the ache and allure of Depeche Mode into something that feels like both prayer and seduction.

“When the body speaks / I feel loved.” That pairing stopped me—how you turned that moment into a near-sacred touch. And then to close with “Sacred. / Perfect. / Home.” — it’s so restrained, but it lands with deep emotional weight.

Thank you for this quiet thunder. It lingered.

Drive-by Truckers

Used to be a cop

A ghost to most

Road cases

Moonlight mile

Goode's field road

72 (this highway's mean)

People who died

Plastic flowers on the highway

That man I shot

The company I keep

Babies in cages

A world of hurt

Watching the orange clouds

After the scene dies

This fucking job

Hell no I ain't happy

One of these days

When the well runs dry

Loaded gun in the closet

Nine bullets

When the pin hits the shell

Goodbye

Decoration day

WPSE thank you so much! I'm really glad you felt the ending—those closing lines came to me like a door slamming and opening at the same time. The Dixie Chicks (yes, always the Chicks in my heart) have such a rich emotional landscape in their songs—fierce, tender, unapologetic. Felt like weaving with fire and silk at once.

Glad you’re walking this lyrical trail with me.

In Pride and rhythm,

Jay 🐾

That’s right they had to drop the Dixie recently. Whatever they call themselves they’re great. There’s an old documentary about the band. If you haven’t seen it, make sure you do.

I have seen it, it sparked my love for the Chicks. Yes, my Album still read Dixie Chicks (yes an actual CD) hence they still qualify for D.

Have gone with Dolly today and the input from her catalogue would be enough for many poems. What a body of work she has. I went for her own compositions as opposed to her singing others’ songs so there may be a few here not so well known. She recently penned a song which is the title of the poem and I let it flow from there in sisterhood 🫶🏻

May 4 - Dolly Parton

19th Amendment (A Woman’s Right)

💪🏻💖

Anyplace you want to go

A gamble either way

Before our weakness gets too strong

Best woman wins

Celebrate the dreamer

Can’t be that wrong

Dirty job

Don’t think twice

Everyday hero

Eagle when she flies

Family of friends

Fuel to the flame

Girl left alone

Get up, get out, get on

Holding everything

Here I am

I’ll keep climbing

I still believe

Just because I’m a woman

Just the way I am

Little sparrow

Let her fly

More power to ya

More than I can say

Not enough

Not for me

One emotion after another

Old enough to know better

Pure and simple

Push and pull

Responsibility

Run that by me one more time

So little I wanted, so little I got

Something to reach for

The giving and the taking

The salt in my tears

Walls of my mind

Woman up

You can do it

You gotta be

Thanks! That is much appreciated. It did go a bit melancholy this one, for sure. They're a great group, too, probably best known these days for being covered by The Fugees ('Ready Or Not'), and for their songs being featured prominently in the movie 'Jackie Brown'... 😎

D is for Dylan - Bob Dylan

It’s all right

You feel like a Hurricane

blowing’ in the wind

But it’s alright

Don’t think twice, it’s alright,

Ma I’m only sighing

Not blowin’ in the wind, idiot wind

But travelling

Down the highway

With the girl from the north country,

Queen Jane

Approximately I threw it all away

To be alone with you

Tell me it isn’t true, and that

Tonight I’ll be staying here with you.

One more night

And I shall be free

Like a rolling stone

Down desolation row

You’re going to make me lonesome when you go

Tell me that it isn’t true

But it’s all over now, baby blue

I want you
