I'm not having it

Nightshift

I'm not having it

I got a man

Ain't no crime

I got a man

Pass the mic

make it happen

shaking

great minds

friends

Right about now

feel good about myself

Black Cinderella

I've got a man

I've got a man

It's all over

Better know about it

A flower grows in Brooklyn

step up front

I'm still not having it

This poem is built entirely from the titles of songs by Kehlani, yet the pain is mine.

I lost my wife just as the world was folding in on itself. Grief arrived like a flood, and for a while, I let it take me. There was no map for that kind of sorrow, no language that fit the sharp edges—so I found another way to speak.

These titles held space for the parts of me that shattered and for the parts that slowly returned. Love doesn’t vanish. It changes shape, and it changes you. This is the story of that change.

—Jay

Ohhh it is s heartfelt message in this one. Very sorry for your loss Jay. It’s amazing how you end the final stanza with a positive note. Even though the previous ones deal with the grief in a more intense way. Need to go back and listen to Kehlani.

WPSE thank you for your kind words. Some time has passed already and I am a different person today as I was back then. Her death and the pandemic together were in the end the catalyst to me finally being able to find my true self. That’s were the uplifting note comes from at the end.

Mark Knopfler - A conversation

Where do you think you're going?

Sailing to Philadelphia

Boom, like that

What have I got to do?

So far away

What it is

You and your friend

Will you miss me?

How long

Why worry?

When you leave Don't crash the ambulance

Nobody does that

Don't forget your hat

Don't you get it? Watch me gone

If this is goodbye Think Fast

Maybe I will

Today is the day

Working on it

This ones not going to end well

Beyond my wildest dreams

BB King

.

Every day I have the blues

How blue can I get

Walkin and crying

Long nights

Waitin on you

.

There must be a better world somewhere

Darlin you know I love you

Please accept my love

I want to get married

Sweet little angel

.

When my heart beats like a hammer

Please hurry home

Please set the date

When love comes to town

It can only hurt for so long

K is for kiss

2000 man

Dirty livin’ hard times

Cold gin tears are falling

Rock bottom

Lonely is the hunter

Under the gun

Get all you can take

While the city sleeps

Thrills in the night

Murder in high heels

Shock me, killer

Shout mercy, freak

Last chance

Take me down below

Outta this world

Back to the Stone Age

Hell or high water

Hell or hallelujah

Not for the innocent

No no no

When your walls come down

I’ll fight hell to hold you

Good girl gone bad

I was made for lovin’ you

Took me some time to find one for this letter, but I chose someone with a beautiful voice that I really enjoy listening to.

Here is a tribute to KD Lang.

It's me,

Walking in and out of your arms.

Infinite and unforseen--

I want it all.

Love is like a cigarette.

My last cigarette...

My old addiction,

Your smoke screen,

Constant craving.

Helpless,

fallen...

Save me.

Wash me clean.

Suddenly

Consequences of falling.

Sugar moon,

I wish I didn't love you so.
