I was SIFTING through the vinyl in the record store when I saw her, over by the Pop section, trying to wipe a lipstick STAIN from the collar of her suede jacket. She said her name was POLLY, and we quickly bonded over our appreciation for the little-known Swedish band DIVE.
She asked me if I wanted to grab something to eat with her, and next thing I knew we were heading off to enjoy some MEXICAN SEAFOOD.
She ordered a Long Island Iced Tea, with a SLIVER of lemon, so I ordered a coffee, because I thought we were being sensible and not having alcohol.
It turns out a Long Island Iced Tea is a cocktail, and it's just called that because it's the colour of tea.
Also, if you enjoy fun little bite-sized stories like this, Volume One and Volume Two of my new Flash Fiction series are available on my page now. I would really appreciate your support, and an extra view or two! Haha... 😎
Nice! I was wondering if anyone else would do them. They really only did three albums, but the impact they made was incredible, and the influence they've had on music is phenomenal... 😎
i believe Jillian Hess on Substack has some amazing notes on her newsletter about Kurt Cobain. Check the post out. Notes from his notebook, in of her regular posts.
Hehe, dumb ass coffee drinker! Cool scene, wonder if it's being played out somewhere in the world right now. I wonder how many people are listening to Nirvana right now.
Haha! They're definitely one of those bands that are probably even more popular now than when they came out. People are discovering them all the time. They apparently still get 22 million listens a month on Spotify. Which by my rough calculations means that at any given minute about 500 people in the world are listening to them. That's mad! 😎
That's just on Spotify, yes, because they publish those figures. But it is a good indication of how popular they still are. The true figure could well be much higher... 😎
Nirvana were my no. 1 fav from about 13-17, so I had to do them. It was hard! I wasn't sure I'd get anything from it, and they have so few albums there wasn't heaps to choose from, but I got something in the end. :-)
Thanks Pilgrim - your comment means a lot. I guess as someone who wrote tanka and haiku almost exclusively for 15 or so years, that was always the hope! Few words - big feels. :-)
Aw thanks. Yeah, it was a sad time for me and my friends, way back when (I was probably 14 at the time I think) - we were all big fans. But it was also something that brought us together in a profound way. Lots of complicated feelings at the time!
Just at the right time, when I thought what should I listen to and then this turns up! Poetry read as the tune plays. Never heard of them either, but these nightmares are welcome so far! Wonderful piece Fotini!
I just posted about favourite sounds and coming back here reading about the hearing in colour and another comment about hearing through physical touch. This poem you've written foreshadows it all Fotini.
I don't understand why Synesthesia is called "a condition". But I don't know how it feels either, so I don't want to sound judgmental. I just think of it like a kind of magic.
Aaaah Nina! Nina can sing! Love what you’ve done here Darienne! I have Nina down for Day 19! But I think our poems are very different. Let’s see! Thank you for joining the challenge.

'friend out in the madness, one blade shy of a sharp edge,' this is powerful.
These lines stand out and point out the meaningless of it all if we don't stand by our values and ourselves: "If I Were the Woman You Wanted
Lookin for the Time
Anyone Can Be Somebody's Fool" and what a fool indeed but fool me if the fool is actually the fool. Great stuff.
Lovely!

Nice :-) We chose the same band! Love that that happened!

Many, one hopes...

Must be more than 500 people. Many listen on other mediums. I don't use spotify and am guessing I'm not the only one.

You got this and more!

That's beautiful to get all that meaning into just four lines. Very powerful... 😎
Thanks so much Chris - really appreciate it! 💜
People remember the violence of his death, this is so peaceful and respectful.
Heartbreaking.

Thanks fellow Pilgrim!
To hear in colour, maybe that's what poetry is. New band for me to check out.
I just posted about favourite sounds and coming back here reading about the hearing in colour and another comment about hearing through physical touch. This poem you've written foreshadows it all Fotini.
I think we were tuned in the same wave :)
I think you got yourself another first line for your next poem...

Looking forward to seeing your Nina on Day 19.
Yeah! Nina Simone, so good!

Thirsty sugar wife,
all dolled-up in straps.
Lucky you.
Slipping husband,

I am easy to find,
send for me underwater,
sea of love fake empire.

The National, been a while. Love your poem Treasa, you have a way with these lines. "I'm easy to find" speaks volumes.
One band that I haven't seen live, but they have some cool music videos.
You have not seen them live... yet! hahahahahaha They've got some cool songs too!
And I love the track you submitted!
I was toying with this one too, collab with Bon Iver.

This one works really well. Really enjoyed the narrative structure.
Thanks so much Dick, their song titles weren't the usual lovey dovey stuff, so it was fun to twist them even more.
What was the National's first song that we got to know them by? Do you remember? I cannot find its title.
For me it was Fake Empire, they have so many albums I need to catch up on. their stuff, lyrics are really great.
hehe - nice!
From the start till the end, every single line comes effortlessly. Great one, Treasa!
Thanks Fotini. Not sure where today's will go, there's so many O's!
I struggled with O and went with Oasis out of necessity... hahahaha sorry Oasis fans.
Oasis versus Blur back in the day. I was a park life kinda gal.
I liked neither back in the day but these days more a Blur fan and Gorillaz! Discovered their songs post Blur!

Now I know—
I know that it’s true
It begins to rain—
It begins to pour--
Ooo, I hear laughter in the rain
Ooo, How I love a rainy day
And the happy way I feel inside
Happy there under the tree
There with the beat of the rain
on the leaves
I hear laughter in the rain
I feel the warmth of your hand in mine
Ooo, how I love a rainy day
I hear laughter in the rain
Comma, comma,
down
doobie do
