PINK FLOYD
Back in SUMMER '68, we used to hang around on the cobbled streets outside one IBIZA BAR and then another, sitting there with our PAINT BOX, making caricatures for the tourists.
They were THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
We'd usually have to RUN LIKE HELL, though, as soon as they saw the pictures.
Because the truth is, we weren't even artists. We just thought it would be a quick and easy way to make some MONEY.
Thanks! It was another fun one this, with so many great songs to choose from. And then I just went ahead and used the lyrics of 'Money' as the main inspiration! "It's a gas... Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash!" Haha... ๐
Weโre entering dark realms with your poems these last days! But I know youโre looking after your readers so not too worriedโฆyet! Iโm not scared yet I tell myself.
Very versatile music. I remember George Michael speaking about Prince and how prolific he was but not only that there's quality. And I say that without being a massive fan. I just respect him for all the music and the fact that he does sing. He was an artist on so many levels.
Absolutely. Amazing performer and songwriter. A lot of people don't realise what an incredible guitar player he was, too. And not only that. He played lots of other instruments as well. On his first album, in particular, he plays literally all the instruments on it! All 27! ๐
Direct, to the point! I mean why not, he was a genius! I love that clip. Came across it a few months ago and laugh each time. Imagine now when most stuff is sampled, auto tuned etc.
I love how we think a certain person will cover a certain artist. I thought youโd do Bowieโฆ hahahahahhaa donโt ask me why. I was so wrong! Part of the surprise element. I have to say I didnโt think Treasa would do Prince either. It was a lovely surprise.
Hahahahaha I thought I needed to get something different. I love her name and I think sheโs pretty cool. I was certain someone would pick Queen. Then again, no one picked Bowie, until much later I think. I am trying to get over that! Everyday, I think of artists I should have covered. Like what letter does Terence Trent DโArby fall under? Iโd like to see a poem about him. Heโs changed name now, Sananda Maitreya right?

Run for their money... this made me laugh.

Oh Christ, these are just getting better.
They are, arenโt they?
That's very kind, thank you! I've been really enjoying putting these together. We're into the final ten now! ๐
Somehow weโll see the month until the end with this.
Prefab Sprout
Johnny Johnny
If you donโt love me
Donโt sing
Hey Manhattan
The sound of crying
Looking for Atlantis
Enchanted
I remember that
Lifeโs a miracle
Horsinโ around
โTil the cows come home
We let the stars go
When love breaks down
The king of rock โnโ roll
Couldnโt bear to be special
'Horsin' around til the cows come home,' hah! Brilliant.
Paddy McAloon has some top class lyrics and titles. Heโs Irish after all!
Ahh, 'The King of Rock 'n' Roll'. That's one of those commonly misheard songs. Like ABBA's 'Super Trouper'! Haha... ๐
Pino Daniele
( All but one title in first version translated to english in the second poem)
Il Mare di Pino Daniele
Chi tene 'o mare
A testa in giu
Sotto 'o sole
-----
Continueremo a navigare
Il pianeta delle parole
Continueremo a navigare
Alla ricerca dell'acqua della vita*
Se mi vuoi
Resta... resta cu'mme
E se amore sarร
Continueremo a navigare
Non abbiamo bisogno di parole
-----
Sotto 'o sole
A testa in giu
Chi tene 'o mare
---------------------
Pino Daniele's Sea
Who holds the sea
Upside down
Under the sun
-----
We sail on
The planet of words
We will continue to navigate
Searching for the water of life
If you want me
Stay... stay with me
And if it will be love
We will continue sailing
We don't need words
-----
Under the sun
Upside down
Who holds the sea

* There was no Italian language version so I translated the English title into Italian.
Utterly beautiful!!!
What an 3-liner at the end, amazing.
I have missed commenting here. This is beautiful. Would this be our first non English piece?
Today I chose PJ Harvey, and haver written a tanka sequence :-)

This is perfection! ๐ค
Aw thanks Fotini - you're too kind ๐๐ป
Great poem for a great artist!
Aw thanks! Yeah, I was so glad I remembered her :-) Lots of great ones to choose from for P.
This really fits with my day. Beautiful.
Aw lovely - so glad!
Again, this is another one where the song titles practically disappear behind the magic of the story. Magnificent! ๐

Hey, Mr. Grieves,
whoโs more sorry now?
Weโre entering dark realms with your poems these last days! But I know youโre looking after your readers so not too worriedโฆyet! Iโm not scared yet I tell myself.
There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Or so the say...
Monkey gone to heaven gonna be stuck in my head all eve. This is great.
Hahahahahahaha
PRINCE

Soft & wet purple rain. One of
your tears, diamonds & pearls.
Starfish & coffee cinnamon girl,
young & beautiful under
a cherry moon.
La, la, la means I love you.
Chaos & disorder, tick, tick,
BANG!

Prince would be proud! Rain, pearls and spice topped with a cherry moon! Only you and Prince!
Watched one of his live concerts on TV recently, that man had some energy and he's super bendy!
He's amazing! Such talent! I love that interview where he says when he is on concert the mic is on and he sings! I need to find it now.
He's my go to when I get sick of all my other Spotify playlists.
Very versatile music. I remember George Michael speaking about Prince and how prolific he was but not only that there's quality. And I say that without being a massive fan. I just respect him for all the music and the fact that he does sing. He was an artist on so many levels.
and all the amazing songs he gave away, 'nothing compares to you' 'manic monday'
Absolutely. Amazing performer and songwriter. A lot of people don't realise what an incredible guitar player he was, too. And not only that. He played lots of other instruments as well. On his first album, in particular, he plays literally all the instruments on it! All 27! ๐
here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkm4XnPKLqI
When he looks directly into the camera, brilliant. The man was a genius.
Direct, to the point! I mean why not, he was a genius! I love that clip. Came across it a few months ago and laugh each time. Imagine now when most stuff is sampled, auto tuned etc.
Yes! Prince! That's a great selection of songs and a nice arrangement of them... ๐
Thanks Chris. Roll on Q day. We might as well just call it Queen day right here and now.
Haha! Well my Queen story is ready and will be going up very shortly! ๐
hahahhahahahaha yes what was I thinking? Queen all the way! One way or another.
I was betting on Portishead for your day's choice, Treasa, but you surprised me with Prince. Wow! Really love the feeling of it!
Ah man! I panic picked. I still have Dummy on tape somewhere. Wandering Star โค๏ธ
I love how we think a certain person will cover a certain artist. I thought youโd do Bowieโฆ hahahahahhaa donโt ask me why. I was so wrong! Part of the surprise element. I have to say I didnโt think Treasa would do Prince either. It was a lovely surprise.
Yeah, I know what you mean, you certainly surprised me today with Queen Latifah :)
This is fun!!!
I still wonder why didn't I choose Johnny Cash or or why nobody else did. There are too many artists to fit into a single day.
I didn't know Terence Trent DโArby changed name, but oh, what memories that name brings...
Yeah he did.
Yes no one picked Cash either.

So lonely
next to you,
Roxanne.
----
Donโt stand so close to me
walking on the moon,
demolition man.
----
Every little thing she does is magic
on any other day
walking in your footsteps.
----
Every breath you take,
itโs alright for you โ
de do do do, de da da da.
----
When the world is running down,
you make the best of whatโs still around.

You picked the cherries for this one! Reads beautifully!
Thank you, WP, I'm still having fun even though I'm falling behind!
Donโt worry! Do what you can and you may go back if you want to as well! Weโre happy to have you here and contribute!
