Very nice choice for icons. Some excellent songs there, too. Like 'A Change Is Gonna Come', 'Bring It On Home To Me', and of course, 'The Great Pretender', which Freddie Mercury covered. And 'Let's Call The Whole Thing Off'. Haha! That's a great ending... 😎
Thank you Chris! I thought I’d surprise you all and not do a George… So went back in time. I love Twisting the Night Away and we rarely hear his wonderful music. Such a dramatic ending to his life as well.
'Twisting The Night Away' is a fantastic song, yes. Rod Stewart did a great version of it, too. And it's definitely a very tragic and bizarre story, for sure, the way things ended for Sam Cooke. He's another one who had so much more to give... 😎
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is a really great Theme this month. It's a chance to have fun with some of the bigger music stars. And also, iconic artists tend to have hundreds of songs! So there's lots to work with... 😎👍
Thanks! It's always fun trying to find an interesting way to fit the song titles together. It's a bit like doing a puzzle! Haha! I'm glad you enjoyed it... 😎
A treasure! This is beautiful. Glad you saw your icon perform that must have been a special day. Crossing the Rubicon has left a mark now. Thank you Alice!
Thank you! It was a special day. All piano. Also saw him play with the Grateful Dead many years ago. They put out an album together: "Dylan and the Dead." The Dead (as many other artists did) covered some of the music from the vast Dylan songbook.
Grateful for this! I didn’t know some of these ones and the Early Mornin’ is a collab with Moby? Wow! Impressive. Beautifully assembled song title poem as always Dick! Thank you!
Yesssss it's back! This is another great Theme this month. Icons. That really opens it up to some wonderful possibilities. I'll have a think and see what I can come up with... 😎
This is amazing! The Stones and the first track makes me think of George Michael's (here I go again) Waiting For That Day which samples You can't always get what you want. Beautiful song title poem, as if the lines flow into the next one with such precision. Very powerful and a gorgeous rhyme-not-rhyme sound. Thank you Allegra and welcome to your first Song Title Poetry challenge.
Somebody's gonna miss me
A change is gonna come
Tennessee Waltz
Good times
Ain’t that good news
Bring it home to me
South of the border
You send me
You, you, you
Sugar dumpling
Somebody have mercy
Little girl
I wish you love
The great pretender
They can’t take that away from me
Twisting the night away
Let’s call the whole thing off
All songs sung by Sam Cooke

I forgot about Rod’s version. You’re right. I love his version too, he made it his own. Yes, very unfortunate story and ending for Sam indeed.
Okay, so here's a quick one from me to get things going, featuring the songs of David Bowie.
AFTER TODAY (Poem)
SWEET THING,
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU,
LET'S DANCE,
AS THE WORLD FALLS DOWN,
IT AIN'T EASY,
NO CONTROL,
DAY IN DAY OUT,
WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD TIMES GONE,
THERE IS A HAPPY LAND,
A BETTER FUTURE,
I'LL TAKE YOU THERE,
EVERYTHING'S ALRIGHT,
AFTER TODAY... 😎
Love this!!!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is a really great Theme this month. It's a chance to have fun with some of the bigger music stars. And also, iconic artists tend to have hundreds of songs! So there's lots to work with... 😎👍
Yes! I can’t decide who to pick. Bowie has an immense catalogue and each song is a story… a novel… a poem!
It's an absolutely beautiful body of work, for sure... 😎👍
"Let's Dance, As the World Falls Down" - Brilliant!
Thanks! It's always fun trying to find an interesting way to fit the song titles together. It's a bit like doing a puzzle! Haha! I'm glad you enjoyed it... 😎
Nice!!!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it... 😎

.
The world was wide enough, waiting on a miracle.
"Tomorrow there'll be more of us, best of wives
and best of women." It’s quiet uptown, we know.
The house knows the room where it happens.
Meet me inside the story of tonight.
.
"What comes next? What’d I miss? What else can I do?"
Surface pressure, the cracks emerge. Wait for it—
.
"Take a break. Wait for it, the dysfunctional tango."
Guns and ships—hurricane—burn—non-stop—
.
"Take a break. I need you, all of you."
Helpless, helpless—say no to this!
.
Surface pressure, hurricane, non-stop burn—
"Stay alive. One last time—"
.
Guns and ships blow us all away.
.
What comes next? I know him: helpless.
Waiting on a miracle one last time
the world was wide enough, satisfied.

Thank you so much! I loved having this prompt last night--thank you for making the opportunity.
Lovely Margaret!
That is an excellent choice for icons! And you've put it all together beautifully... 😎
Beautiful!
Here you come again three doors down in my coat of many colors .
We are just islands in the stream, Jolene!
Songs by the one and only great Dolly Parton. Condolences on your loss.
Just heard the other day…. Beautiful work and condolences to Dolly for her loss. What a lovely tribute.
Lovely! 😎👍
Thank you, Chris !
Some classics, but Jolene is amazing. Love your choices!
Thank you , Writer Pilgrim and Margaret Silver for the likes
Bob Dylan song Title Poetry challenge
By: Alice W. Meadows
Great challenge! Had to go with Bob Dylan who I saw perform a year ago at age 82. Amazing. And so many song titles to choose from.
Crossing the Rubicon
Day of the locusts
Back to the wall.
Ballad of a thin man,
Baby coming back from the dead.
Crash on the levee
(down in the flood).
The devil’s been busy
Crossing the Rubicon.
No time to think.
Murder most foul.
Mr. Tambourine Man,
A hard rain’s a-gonna fall.
.
It takes a lot to laugh,
It takes a train to cry
Going, going, gone,
Crossing the Rubicon.
Idiot wind,
Hurricane.
Howlin’ at your window,
How many days?
Forever young,
I feel a change comin’ on.
Forgetful heart.
Crossing the Rubicon.
Just like a woman,
Just like Tom Thumb’s blues.
Like a rolling stone,
Golden Tom-Silver Judas.
Gotta serve somebody,
Only a pawn in their game.
Pledging my time,
Crossing the Rubicon.
Gonna change my way of thinking.
Gonna love her anyway.
Got my mind made up,
Down the highway.
Drifter’s escape,
Simple twist of Fate,
Shelter from the storm,
Crossing the Rubicon.
A treasure! This is beautiful. Glad you saw your icon perform that must have been a special day. Crossing the Rubicon has left a mark now. Thank you Alice!

Brilliant! And very timely, too, with the superb film 'A Complete Unknown' getting a lot of attention right now... 😎
Thank you! Just watched the film and loved it.
😎👍
Bonnie Raitt
My opening farewell
I need love
I believe I'm in love with you
I think about it all the time
Not cause I wanted to
I can't make you love me
I can't help you now
You gotta be ready for love
Just like that
All at once
Here come those tears again
River of tears
Feels like rain
Can't find my way home
Too long at the fair
Let's keep it between us
When we say goodnight
Walk out the front door
Run like a thief
Write me a few of your lines
Fool yourself
Your gonna get what's coming
Back around
The comin' round is goin' through
It's all over now, baby blue
Bye bye baby
😭 in tears reading this! Absolutely beautiful! Heartbreaking.
Love and heartbreak captures Bonnie Raitt's music so well and so does your poem. Beautiful!
Fantastic! Some great songs there, too. Especially 'I Can't Make You Love Me', which of course, George Michael covered so brilliantly... 😎
This is so fluid; it tells a complete story.
Couldn’t agree more.
Chose Brittney Spears as my icon. Here's a wee one:
*
early morning
shadows
swimming in stars,
.
i will be there
till the world ends:
.
dancing
*

Aw cheers Pilgrim 🖤 Thanks as always for the space and prompt.
🙏🏻
Love this and love Britney!
Yeah, Britney's the best!
She is!
Haunting. I don't know too much Britney, but you knit together some great titles.
Aw cheers Alice - much appreciated! 🖤
Very nice! 😎👍
Chur Chris :-)
Yesssss it's back! This is another great Theme this month. Icons. That really opens it up to some wonderful possibilities. I'll have a think and see what I can come up with... 😎
You can't always get what you want
bitch
paint it black
emotional rescue
satisfaction
gimme shelter
honky tonk women
miss you
the girl with the faraway eyes
start me up
