You've been in the archives! I didn't know their name, but I remember the song! Amazing, Fotini! Absolutely, brilliant, each line feeds into the next, a collective dragging down!
It was a WARM SUMMER NIGHT in the cabin, and we were just getting ready to SETTLE DOWN with a bottle of Merlot on the couch after an amazing day full of boating on the lake and picking BLACK BERRIES in the forest.
It was then we heard it.
FOOTSTEPS IN THE DARK outside. Someone stalking around the perimeter of the cabin. And it sounded like TROUBLE.
TANGO was already in TEARS and she was mumbling to herself, saying we had to get out, but we were miles from the nearest town and there was NOWHERE TO RUN.
The sounds outside soon got worse, and far more frightening. It seemed almost like the growl of a VACUUM CLEANER starting up at first, but it soon became obvious it was a chainsaw.
My SECRET LOVER screamed, and I jumped so much it made me SPILL THE WINE.
Yes, The Isley Brothers are a fascinating one, because so much of their music has been sampled by hip-hop artists. Songs like 'Footsteps In The Dark' and 'Between The Sheets' would be instantly familiar to people as being the basis of other songs by Ice Cube and Notorious BIG. But they're amazing songs in their own right, and they're definitely one of the best groups that came out of the Motown era. And that produced a lot of great artists! 😎

This Is How It Feels

Here comes the flood,
irresistible force
dragging me down.
Half way there
inside my head
bitches brew
memories of you.
Further away
sun don’t shine—
I don’t want to go blind,
please be cruel.

You know many more songs, I'm sure. 90s rule!
Thank you for your kind words, and keep up with the beat real wild child!
Great flow to this poem and a really catching tune to pep me up this morn.
Glad you like it, Treasa, have a nice day!
And.... I wonder if this inspired Caesars Palace with Jerk It Out. Too similar in my view.
Could be... I haven't listened to any other of Ceasars Palace songs to tell you the truth so I don't know...
Just listen to that one and let me know what you think. Sounds very much like Dragging me down.
Fantastic. Haven't thought about them for a long time. They were the band Noel Gallagher used to be a roadie for, before he joined Oasis... 😎
Thanks Chris!!!
An air for the wind
(Song titles from “Our Endless Numbered Days” by Iron and Wine)
.
On your wings, wind, we arrive and we leave
swooping down upon the teeth in the grass
.
rising up past the sunset soon forgotten
naked as we came on this passing afternoon.
.
Cinder and smoke rise from the tamped-down fire
each shifting night, a fever dream of being trapped
.
and tied, free until they cut me down, chanting
rising up in a blizzard of sounds, a radio war
.
of hissing dissonance and faintly heard lyrics
“love” and some verses lost as the wind rises again
.
and we leave and arrive on your wings.
.
Songs:
On Your Wings
Naked as We came
Cinder and Smoke
Sunset Soon Forgotten
Teeth in the Grass
Love and Some Verses
Radio War
Each Coming Night
Free Until They Cut Me Down
Fever Dream

Passing Afternoon
Gorgeous writing as always. Are you mixing titles with some of your own lines?
Yes, I am still trying to grab the concept of not bringing in my own words 🤪.
I am not judging! 😂
Iron and Wine - very fitting for you, Margaret! And the poem so great! ❤️
Thank you, Fotini! 😊
Teeth in the grass! I'm gonna have to check that song out. Amazing poem, love it's couplet form.
Thank you, Treasa! It's a great album.

Oldies but goodies!

Every day you come up with a little gem, Treasa!
Thanks Fontini. I wonder if we'll pick the same J band/artist for tomorrow? See you then.
I haven't decided yet for tomorrow. We'll see...
Wonderful Treasa! The recording is at Air studios in Hampstead right? Wonderful sound!
Ice Cube
---
It was a good day,
can you dig it?
Once upon a time in the projects,
down for whatever,
you know how we do it.
---
Gangsta rap made me do it,
get money, spend money, no money,
gotta be insanity.
When I get to heaven
say hi to the bad guy.
---
We had to tear this mothafucka up,
Dirty Mack.
I gotta say what up!!
dead homiez.
Yes this is it! We've entered a new dimension, Ice Cube in the house! Thank you Jonathan!
Exactly the response I was hoping for!
'I want to be your dog candy,' great line!
