Ahh, Jamiroquai. That's a great one. Very nicely put together. It captures that hedonism of being young really well. He always used to wear brilliant hats, too! 😎
She was an ENGLISH ROSE, and I was a BOY ABOUT TOWN, and we fell for each other at first sight, in a way that made us FLY, like it always does WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG.
I used to buy her a CARNATION every MONDAY, and we were so HAPPY TOGETHER, living fast with our days full of NON-STOP DANCING.
Until the demands of THE MODERN WORLD, and the anguish of not being blessed with THE GIFT of a child, caused it all to SLOW DOWN, and led us to our own PRIVATE HELL, where those fun and carefree people we once were now just seem like GHOSTS.
There used to be open roads ahead of us. But these days we're just RUNNING ON THE SPOT. Going nowhere, like LONDON TRAFFIC... 😎
Chris, this seems to me like a well thought out piece taking us from the beginning and exciting aspect of a new relationship to the daily grind and the lack of emotion. Beautiful work. You're becoming an expert at these!
Thanks! That is exactly what I was trying to show, yes, the arc of a relationship from the highs of its beginning to the lows that came later. It was mainly inspired by thinking the band name itself looked like a story title. And I thought, ahh, it could be their relationship that has got in a jam. Glad you enjoyed it... 😎
Thanks! That is much appreciated. Although most of my stories are centred around Humour, and mild Horror, I do sometimes like to throw something more emotional into the mix. The carnations may well have been discounted on a Monday, yes, as they were probably left over from the weekend! 😎
Absolutely. I love leaving gaps for readers to make up their own minds and interpret things the way they want. Like yesterday's one in the cabin. It could be a crazed madman, or it could be her husband has come looking for revenge. Minimalism! 😎
Thanks, Fotini! This one brought back a lot of great memories. I love Paul Weller's songwriting, and we used to play a few Jam songs in one of the bands I was in. I'm glad you enjoyed it... 😎
The repetition keeps this together in a lovely way. You did something similar with the Wah Wah George Harrison right? Nothing is easy, just trying to be. Wonderful man of aran.
So glad you think so! Yeah, the repetition in Wah Wah was intuitive (or free verse) while this one conforms to the villanelle rules of repetition (minus the rhyme and meter). It took a while to reach that form, but I like how it turned out. Thanks, Pilgrim!

Ahh, Jamiroquai. That's a great one. Very nicely put together. It captures that hedonism of being young really well. He always used to wear brilliant hats, too! 😎
The hats were his thing! Some were very artistic! Thank you!
Indeed. That's why they often call him: "The Cat in the Hat"... 😎
Oh, the return of the space cowboy... I love Jamiroquai and I love what you did with these song titles!
Yes, the cowboy didn't make it to this poem. I left him out!
The hats, the smooth moves, groovy grooves...thanks for taking us there again.
Yes, he has his own style that's for sure!
Nice. New artist to me.
Hope you like!

Excellent! Day J, my fav of yours so far.
J day is damn good! Thanks Treasa!
Love the thematic stanzas and how they build up and the religious connotations. Powerful, beautiful and thought provoking. Thank you Fotini!
Thank you, Pilgrim!!!
Excellent! works very well.

THE JAM
I met her at ART SCHOOL.

Great story telling, i didn't expect that midway dark revelation. Also, carnations must have been going cheap on a Monday!?
Chris, this seems to me like a well thought out piece taking us from the beginning and exciting aspect of a new relationship to the daily grind and the lack of emotion. Beautiful work. You're becoming an expert at these!

But that's the beauty here that you don't mention the leftover weekend part. We get to suss that out ourselves.
Absolutely. I love leaving gaps for readers to make up their own minds and interpret things the way they want. Like yesterday's one in the cabin. It could be a crazed madman, or it could be her husband has come looking for revenge. Minimalism! 😎
I though of The Jam as well for this prompt but I'm glad I didn't go down that road. I could not match up to this! Great story, Chris!
Thanks, Fotini! This one brought back a lot of great memories. I love Paul Weller's songwriting, and we used to play a few Jam songs in one of the bands I was in. I'm glad you enjoyed it... 😎

I like the juxtaposition, I remember nothing, to You're no good for me! So I remember that you're no good for me! Brilliant Treasa!
Cheers! It's a late entry but I think I'm hooked now so didn't want to miss a day. You're stuck with me til June :)
What happens in June?
Poof...and I'm gone, well from this challenge anyways. I'll still be hanging around notes n stuff.
Pumpkin style!
I was betting on you to come up with Joy Division, Treasa. And you did. And you brought us another great poem. Win-win!!!
You know me too well! I even wore my Joy Division T-shirt yesterday :)
Well, I don't, but I'm happy that I get to know you a bit more through all this!!!
You are giving me ideas
Jethro Tull Villanelle
---
Nothing is easy
Bungle in the jungle
Just trying to be
---
Life is a long song
No lullaby
Nothing is easy
---
Wond’ring aloud
Wond’ring again
Just trying to be
---
Minstrel in the gallery
Skating away on the thin ice of a new day
Nothing is easy
---
Fire at midnight
Too old to rock ‘n’ roll, too young to die
Just trying to be
---
Living in the past
Cold wind to Valhalla
Nothing is easy
Just trying to be

I can tell there is a lot of time and work that goes in to your poems. I appreciate it and how you push yourself!
A Jethro Tull Villanelle - now that's a group of words I never imagined to go along so well together! Well done!!!

I love rock ’n’ roll,
I love playing with fire.
You’re too possessive,
little drummer boy.
----
Crimson and clover,
bits and pieces,
tossin’ and turnin’
just like in the movies.
----
I hate myself for loving you
eye to eye.
I still dream about you —
the only good thing (you ever said was goodbye).
----
Love is pain.
(I’m gonna) run away.

These lines were made for you to put in a poem Jonathan! Brilliance!
Thank you, Pilgrim by :)
