Sadly, I didn't manage to make much way with it, before having to pawn it. (Sad story from my young and reckless days.) I have since come to the conclusion that I belong with a piano. This movement is most attuned with my body.
I can hear Johnny Cash singing this in my head. It’s the first line that’s repeated for emphasis that just reminds me of the man in black. Throw in some harmonica and acoustic guitar, and it’s a song!
He did, but without googling, which I hate doing, they don’t come to mind. ‘When the man comes around’ is a lyric sung by Cash that is now on a loop in my head, featuring in a song from one of his last albums of covers by other artists. Produced by Rick Rubin, who really drew out the very best of his voice and guitar playing. I miss that man. A perfectly flawed, one of a kind.
Great voice, great songs, great interpretation of lyrics for sure. There's another artist I was looking at and realised how many songs he did were by Cash. It's good to see how they worked together and used songs again. Thank you for sharing all this music trivia!
This poem is made entirely of k.d. lang’s song titles, and the story behind it is mine. It’s the story of falling in love, of losing the person who made me feel most alive, and of being forced—by grief and by a global hush—into a solitude I might never have chosen on my own.
When my partner died at the start of the pandemic, I didn’t know what healing looked like. I only knew the world had quieted, and I had been broken open. What followed was long, strange, and deeply necessary. Her absence became a doorway back to myself.
These titles helped me shape that journey: from ache to light, from detour to devotion.
Sorry for your loss Jay. K D Lang, what a gorgeous voice she has. I didn’t know she’d done covers of Hallelujah and three cigarettes in an ashtray! That girl can sing. Love your initial stanza in this song title poem.
I understand it's difficult when you lose someone close to you no matter the circumstances. You're excited to talk about your experience and relationship. This is too much information on a page that's about a music challenge and you keep pushing my boundaries for what this space is for. Please be considerate to other readers who may not condone infidelity, bigamy and/or extramarital relations. You include other people and third parties in your comment who are not here to give their view. That's uncomfortable and unfair on them. While I'm not liable for what you share and how much you include intimate details, I kindly suggest that out of self respect, consider what you share over the internet. This page is not about people's sex lives or adultery. This is about songs and music. Be considerate, be respectful.
Oh, Jay, you gave me goosebumps. Yes, the first stanza did it. I'm not familiar with her music, although of course I know some of the songs you mentioned. I find it fascinating that we all listen to such different music!
Thanks. So many songs to choose from, but I just tried to capture the essence of the man. Wise. Open. No place too dark,or bright, for him to explore. By someone’s side. Along for the ride, or leading the way. When he last played Ireland, about 10 years ago, he greeted the crowd by saying ‘hello everyone, it’s good to be back. It’s been over twenty years since I last played here..just a crazy kid with a dream!’
As simple as that, crazy dream, small steps, little kid! How lucky you were to have seen him. You want it darker is a great title and lyric. Glad it found a place in your poem.
Very true. Somtimes I listen to Everybody Knows, and marvel at all the little things and hints and smart jabs hidden between every word... Zen master at work.
His music never sticks. I remember early MTV days always playing his music but I never understood it. Thank you for this poem, it all makes sense now years later. Thank you Darienne.
I've never heard of Lisa either and checking her youtube songs there are not played too much which is a shame. Lovely poem and thank you Lennart for introducing us to unknown and especially Swedish artists. Much appreciated!
I still remember the first time I heard this band, on the radio, on a day I was sick and stayed home from school. Funny how some things stick in the mind...
Love Living Colour! Met them years ago and saw a gig in a small venue. Those anthems live are the experience. Thanks for the reminder. I think I wrote one on them last year. Thank you Tali.

If I had a harmonica, I would take it out and maybe succeed in playing a few bars... I was hopeless on it... Beautiful.
Thank you 🙏 yes a harmonica is essential! Can’t imagine anyone being hopeless with it!
Sadly, I didn't manage to make much way with it, before having to pawn it. (Sad story from my young and reckless days.) I have since come to the conclusion that I belong with a piano. This movement is most attuned with my body.
It’s more versatile the piano! Can’t go wrong with it!
I can hear Johnny Cash singing this in my head. It’s the first line that’s repeated for emphasis that just reminds me of the man in black. Throw in some harmonica and acoustic guitar, and it’s a song!
How cool that'd be! Didn't Cash sing some Leadbelly songs? I think so.

I think he would have liked it, Kevin. You kept the depth and flow of his natural rhythm with these titles. I love what you did here.

That song is a masterpiece. I’m going to have a Leonard Cohen soundtrack for today. Beginning with that track.

You create wonderful sounds with your poems. Internal rhymes? Is that a term? Thank you Lisa!
Thanks, I'm not sure if that is a term or not, but I'll take it!! 😀
Passionate and powerful singer!

This is a lovely one! Again, I don't know the singer. What is wrong with me?!!!
I've never heard of Lisa either and checking her youtube songs there are not played too much which is a shame. Lovely poem and thank you Lennart for introducing us to unknown and especially Swedish artists. Much appreciated!
Oh nothing wrong with U ~ there’s just so much Great Music outthere we just haven't found yet. Keep searching 🎶
100% agreed!
Let’s all meet up at that coffeeshop - love this Lenn, simple intricacies transporting us there.
☕
That’s kind of how it seemed in my head.
I still remember the first time I heard this band, on the radio, on a day I was sick and stayed home from school. Funny how some things stick in the mind...
This is a tribute to Living Color.
Someone like you.
Time's up!
I want to know
Broken hearts,
Desperate people.
Under cover of darkness,
Love rears its ugly head,
Never satisfied.
Go away.
Leave it alone.
Mind your own business.
I want to know
Song without sin
in your name.
Holy roller--
Lost halo...
Someone like you.
Two sides.
That's what you taught me.
Love Living Colour! Met them years ago and saw a gig in a small venue. Those anthems live are the experience. Thanks for the reminder. I think I wrote one on them last year. Thank you Tali.
Oh wow! I would love to see them live. Must have been fantastic!

Mindblowing! Thank you Kate!
I love this one, Kate. You really made a story, and I know how hard it is. I love Lana!
LIONEL RICHIE (Poem)
