LED ZEPPELIN
Relaxing on the chaise longue in Dr. KASHMIR's office, I slowly felt myself beginning to open up.
"I guess I'm here because of what happened that day by THE OCEAN", I said.
"Go on", said the Doctor, starting to write furiously in his notebook.
"I was with my FRIENDS", I said, "And I remember there was this huge BLACK DOG there. A stray, I think. THAT'S THE WAY it looked, at least. It was dishevelled. And I wanted to throw a stick for it to chase, but one stick didn't seem big enough, so I tied FOUR STICKS together."
"And then what happened?"
"I threw them. But that extra weight made them go further than I was expecting. And well... DOWN BY THE SEASIDE there tends to be a lot of cliffs."
"This is good", said the Doctor, "You're finally willing to admit how this all started. This is truly a CELEBRATION DAY."
"How what started?" I said, feeling myself beginning to become DAZED AND CONFUSED.
I let him RAMBLE ON, trying to figure out how long I had been here. A year. Maybe five. Had TEN YEARS GONE?
The Doctor flipped his notebook over to a new page.
"Are you ready to talk about DARLENE?" He asked softly.
But by that point my mind had already started to shut down again, and all semblances of coherent thought were fading away like the sun IN THE EVENING. While my sanity... My sanity had taken flight, and fled, OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY... 😎
I need to read this over. What happened to the dog? Who's Darlene? I don't like the sound of this doc... All because of Led Zeppelin, my thoughts are now curiously looking for answers. Great job Chris!

Yes, there's a lot of little details in this one that hint at something much larger going on. It's really what should be a novella condensed to one page. I might have left too many gaps and there's possibly not enough information there to make the connections. But the concept is, we have someone who is in a psychiatric hospital, and has been there for a very long time. Now the reason they are there is clearly because of 'Darlene'. We're not told what has happened, but what we are told is the story of the dog which is said to be the 'beginning'. The leap the reader is then supposed to make is that those kind of incidents are what often crop up in the childhood of notorious killers. Or is it just someone dealing with a series of traumas that have caused their mind to snap, and the 'four sticks' were their friends that something happened to that day? I think there's a definite sense of unease in it, which is nice. And it's very open to interpretation. But it's tricky to convey complex ideas like this in the minimalist style. It's always fun to experiment, though! 😎
Haha! It is definitely mind-blowing how everyone is discovering new stories, and we're all going on these amazing journeys, just from looking at Song Titles. And we're only halfway through! 😎
Well, I have seen her live! She does not do much of live anymore, but there was a concert a few years ago mixed with an interview and she was just amazing!
Thank you for this one BW, great lines! Welcome to the challenge and sorry we didn't see more of your song title poems on this occasion! But the rest of the letters are available if you wish to see them. Another artist whose name evades me. I know some of the songs but the name is new to me. Thank you for this contribution.
Living Colour
I want to know
Which way to America
Elvis is Dead
This is the life
Desperate people
Go Away
Glamour Boys
Time’s up
Open letter
Love rears its ugly head
Leave it alone
Ignorance is bliss
I was born the year Elvis died, so you know I could be his reincarnated soul. Except I can't sing for shite! Also, cool poem.
Oh my! Thank you!

Poor Fido! This has a delicious macabre tone to it. Is this even reality? Are we all Substack ghosts stuck in an alphabet world? Aghhhh!

Here comes the rain again.

Fantastic! I was hoping she'd crop up at some point. 'Love Song for a Vampire' is another one I love to play on guitar... 😎
She's top of my list to go see live someday. I think hush, hush, hush is a collab or a cover.
Yes, she's done a lot of collaborations. That one was with Herbie Hancock, I think... 😎
Well, I have seen her live! She does not do much of live anymore, but there was a concert a few years ago mixed with an interview and she was just amazing!
Oh amazing, lucky you.
I love Annie! Wow this is wonderful! I don't think I know hush hush hush. Love your blend of Annie and Eurythmics.
Love that 3rd verse. Another band I have heard of but will seek out.

If I were the man you wanted,
the waltzing fool,
cowboy man,
if I had a boat,
if you were to wake up —
here I am.

I’ve been to Memphis,
the road to Ensenada,
North Dakota,
Baltimore,
Church.
They don’t like me.

All my love is gone —
I think you know what I mean.
For Labi Siffre
(Love is love is love) Why isn’t love enough?
It must be love, crying, laughing, loving, lying
For the children. Who do you see
When I’m on my own you are on my mind.
Thank your lucky star I don’t know what’s
Happened to the kids today. Maybe when we
Dance you hurt me. Would you dance?
Listen to the voices, nothin’s gonna change.
The shadow of our love last night tonight.
Why did you go, why did you leave me?
You and I should be together ‘till forever.
Words; la-de-da-de-da (lost without your love).

Ok - here's my one for L, a little late haha. This time I chose Laura Marling. Had such a good time listening to her while writing it. This performance in particular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIQjLrffIq0&list=PLvLQ-K5VXgT6lfi1bCiw551e1yc_j7gO2 And I think that means I am finally caught up? Now to do Z :-)

Old stone
Crawled out of the sea,

Breathe—

You know
You're no god.

Divine
Little bird,

Wild once—
.
Worship me!
Pray for me!

III.

Covered in snow,
.
The valley
Saved these words
For you—
.
“Once I was an eagle.”

Nature of dust—
.
Night after night
Don't ask me why,
.
I speak
Because I can.
