I had a little listen to Prince, and Tom Petty, etc, a couple of times, and then just put a playlist of his songs , on Spotify , popped in my earplugs, and potted some plants while busting a few moves in my yard. Each song brought back the time of their release. Sign of the times rings as true today as when it exploded back in the 80’s.
So, you have the Celtic blood coursing through your veins, same as myself. And a name to match. Clancy and Devlin are very popular surnames up around our east coast. I’m down in Cork, myself. The Peoples Republic of Cork, as we like to call it. The real capital of Ireland. The Dubs don’t like it. But we don’t care!
Wishing you and yours a peaceful, relaxing weekend. God bless.
It’s not a bad part of the planet to spend your days. I’ve travelled and worked all over the world, but eventually returned, and as luck would have it, I was in exactly the right place, at the right time, as family issues needed to be resolved. And that is an ongoing project, with little ones dependent upon me. So right now, despite my wanderlust, I would not want to be anywhere else. And we are experiencing a mini heat wave these last few weeks, so the general mood has improved dramatically! It’s a rare occurrence. So I’m enjoying every minute. I’m off to west Cork tomorrow, heading in the Kerry direction. The scenery, and especially the beaches there, are breathtakingly beautiful. On a par with any I’ve seen anywhere. When the sun shines! Haha!
I love this, Kathleen. Prince was so talented, and his lyrics are off the charts great!
He would have approved of your piece, and then casually thrown a six minute guitar solo in between ‘I wish you heaven’, and ‘Baby I’m a star’!
We shall never see the like of him again. And now, having read your poem for the second or third time, I’m going to have a Prince themed evening here in Ireland.
Beginning with his taking part in the star studded ensemble onstage to honour the late George Harrison. Prince was peeved to have not been included in a top one hundred list of all time great guitarist list, compiled by the same people that organised the George Harrison bash. So, when he closed out ‘ While my guitar gently weeps’, surrounded by some of the worlds best guitarists, left everyone at the venue, including those onstage with him, open mouthed and in awe at the sound he produced on guitar. I recommend any Prince fan, to check it out on YouTube. I’m putting it on right now, and thanks again for sharing. Brilliantly done!
You're welcome. He definitely left us too soon. I loved every single one of his songs every time they come on I dance around the house like a crazy lady.
Yes, and I remember while my guitar gently weeps.
Thanks from Draper, Utah
So I see you're from Ireland that's where my family started last name Clancy/Devlin. Rock on.
The pseudo echo sound between sea and shoreline is a lovely dialogue Kate. Wow! Beautiful work and does this dialogue go into inner monologue at some point? His Eyes Listening repetition works very well!
I feel like she has found a kindred spirit who “gets her” but she has doubts, and worries he sees her chameleon-nature; so she keeps him distant but he’s a constant, patient and compassionate, so she relents.
I’ve written the last few by scanning the track list on albums, and just taking a couple of titles that resonate, and building on that . Each one taking no more than 5 minutes to jot down, type up, and send. Just letting it flow, and press go. Before you second guess yourself and ruin that initial hook line.. if you follow me? I have not attempted to write poems since I was a teenager. I’m more into short storylines, little snippets, or a mish mash of scenarios that occurred in my life while working or travelling or whatever. Crippled by procrastination and imposter syndrome, but the more I read on this particularly wonderful space, the more I realise that almost everyone suffers from the same sort of stuff as I do.
You may not be alone in many experiences you encounter… but many go through it on their own. Writing and songs connect people. And yes, song title poems don’t need to take long time to assemble.
I find it best to go quickly, with a title or two setting the tone, and then let some others fill in the rest. I’m not making much sense here, not even to myself, as it’s hard to articulate how songs, especially the ones we know well and can transport us back to periods in our lives… good and bad and sometimes oh so ugly.. affect us. And, of course, each one brings back unique memories to us, or can unite us in our recollection.
The song title poem challenge is a cracking idea. It’s been a blast for me, at least. Reading other people’s take on bands I’m into. Introducing me to others for the first time. And met some like minded, warm and welcoming people along the way.
Thanks for inviting me, and the effort you have put in to facilitate us all. Happy Friday!
It’s lovely to hear you share that. It’s a little intense in May as there’s a challenge each day! It then moves on to monthly challenge for the rest of the year. Thank you for immersing in it and being part of the conversation.
The pleasure is all mine, Writer Pilgrim by so Elite. I’m a newbie, and your encouragement and support made me feel really welcome. What a lovely little group to be able to interact with every day, and it’s all down to you setting the stage and leading by example. You certainly brought me out of my shell!
Beautiful two stanzas one about movement in dance and the second perhaps of the slow dance of a flower. Park Jiha has mesmerizing music, so nice to see her here in your song title poem.

These two gentlemen created music that offered me many stories to imagine, and were my safe place in high school.
This is a tribute to The Pet Shop Boys.
Yesterday, when I was mad,
A different point of view--
liberation.
To face the truth,
Love is the law.
Say it to me
Pazzo!
Inner sanctum--
somewhere--
Dreamland.
Together,
Vocal
Winner.
Hold on!
Breathing space.
Give it a go.
Everything means something...
Left to my own devices--
Forever in love,
My head is spinning.
Jealousy
So hard.
Love comes quickly.
What have I done to deserve this?
How can you expect to be
Taken seriously?
My October symphony.
Did you see me coming?
Leaving?
I want to wake up.
Oh I would've never thought there was a poetic element to the pet shop boys! And the opening lines "Yesterday, when I was mad,
A different point of view--
liberation.
To face the truth,
Love is the law." Love, liberation, truth and a different point of view. What a story you tell here, thank you Tali!
Thank you X
Poco
Kind woman
Let's dance tonight
I'll leave it up to you
Just call my name
Make me smile
From the inside
Angel - C'Mon
Keep on believin'
Just for me and you
How will you feel tonight
Sittin' on a fence
Starin' at the sky
While you're on your way
Win or lose
Cry no more
You better think twice
I can see everything
Don't let it pass by
Anyway bye bye
Just in case it happens, yes indeed
Go and say goodbye
Another band that's new for me. These lines follow one another so well, perfect flow. Thank you Gordon.
Love it!
Something swoony this way comes …

Sunflower
Wild wood
Always there
All I wanna do (Is be with you)
You do something to me
When your garden's overgrown
.
Trees
Aim high
No tears to cry
Grasp and still connect
Amongst butterflies
Break the night with colour
What else is there?
.
Days go by
Time passes...
Wishin on a star
Long hot summer
Blink and you'll miss it
Come on / Let's go
When poetry just sings to you! Beautiful Lisa.
Ahh, The Modfather! That's a fantastic choice. So many great songs there... 😎👍
P is for pseudo echo
His eyes
Listening
From the shore
Suddenly silent
See through
Stranger in me
I will be you
Don’t go
Lies are nothing
Fooled again
Fighting the tide
Try girl
I ask you why
Tell me
Caught imagination
Eye of the storm
Runaways
Loosen the rope
Dancing till midnight
Destination unknown
Funky town
His eyes
Listening
Take on the world

There is something so powerful in this repeated imagery. Loved this Kate🫶🏻
PEARL JAM (Poem)
DEAD MAN, RUNNING,
QUICK ESCAPE, IN THE MOONLIGHT,
IN HIDING, IN MY TREE,
ALL NIGHT,
SEVEN O'CLOCK, LIGHTNING BOLT,
FORCE OF NATURE,
OFF HE GOES,
THE END... 😎
Love this!Seven o clock, lightning bolt is a great line!
Thanks! It's always incredible how often you can find connections between these song titles, and make stories out of them. Haha... 😎
Very true!
Before night falls
In your eyes
The promise of shadows
The rhythm of heat
Modern love
Waiting for the big one
Love to be loved
Come back to me
That voice again
The feeling begins
Lay your hands on me
Kiss that frog
Peter Gabriel.
Another class act! Thank you Kevin! In your eyes, all of this heat, promise and love. Wonderful poem!
