Richard Thompson

Dimming of the day

Night comes in

Meet on the ledge

Never again

Did she jump or was she pushed

For shame of doing wrong

Down where the drunkards roll

She cut off her long silken hair

Walking on a wire

The rattle within

Guns are the tongues

When the spell is broken

Outside of the inside

The fear never leaves you

The ghost of you walks

No man's land

The madness of love

The way that it shows

How I wanted to

Never again

Salford Sunday

Wall of death

The end of the rainbow

Withered and died

As Darienne said, and may I add, I like how seamless this is even though you write in 3rd person, then second and then end with the I. Masterpiece, Gordon.

Love me some Richard Thompson, Gordon. This may be dark but it flows like treacle and sticks me so I need to read again and again.

The first offering was a little dark so I offer a second as recompense.

Tedeschi Trucks Band

Midnight in Harlem

Last night in the rain

Shelter

Just as strange

All you can do

Laugh about it

Keep on growing

Another day

The storm

Rollin' and tumblin'

Rainy day

Do I look worried

Still your mind

Wade in the water

Walk through this life

Strengthen what remains

Hold that line

Simple things

They don't shine

Until you remember

Somehow

I hear the blues, the simplicity and depth in this all at once. Thank you Gordon! Got the Tedeschi Tiny Desk concert on! What a sound!

Formatting got me all wrapped up on this one and it won’t work in a comment so here’s the link to my note

Sorry the formatting has played a bit of havoc with your piece Darienne. This is just another great song title poem from you Darienne! Wow!!! I have seen how many times you’ve pushed yourself in this one and finding the alphabetical ordering of letters as yet another feature to focus your writing. Absolutely wonderful. So many outstanding stanzas here.

That is truly remarkable! And as I said so many times last year, the song titles just disappear here and it becomes a beautiful piece in its own right… 😎👍

A Tanya Tucker song poem:

My Cowboy’s Getting Old

How Can I Tell Him

Love’s the Answer

Love’s Gonna Live Here

My Arms Stay Open All Night

Crazy Arms

I Wonder What’s He’s Doing Tonight

I Oughta Let Go

Fool, Fool Heart

Oh Lonesome Me

Is it about the Cowboy getting old and spoken to or is the narrator the old cowboy? Love the ambiguity in this song title as it gives it layers to explore and offer options. I feel a sense of loneliness and a tug of war between letting love in or keeping it at bay. Dont know Tanya Tucker so must look her up! Thank you Marinarena!

Here I imagine a woman (narrator) with an old (worn down emotionally) cowboy mate and she's wants to win him over with love again , but yes, is in a kind of battle to either love him or let him go and knows she is in a lonesome state. I haven'y fully explored her discography but I know some Tanya songs. There is much vulnerability to her and she is always authentic in expressing emotions.

I played a couple of her songs and yes it's very country and very emotional. Liked it! Thank you for the introduction.

These songs are by the artist Torres

Are you sleepwalking

November baby

When winter’s over

Wake to flowers

Jerk into joy

Righteous woman

Good grief

Collect

Two of everything

A few blue flowers

Records of tenderness

Gracious day

Forever home

I think I originally posted this poem for one of the monthly Song Title Events last year, where the prompt was 'Funny Songs'. But I really liked it, so I thought I'd share it again for The Marathon...

TIM MINCHIN (Poem)

I'M IN A CAGE,

THE ABSENCE OF YOU,

LOUD,

IS NOTHING SACRED ANYMORE?

*

I'M HERE, SEEING YOU,

STILL HOLDING MY HAND,

STUCK,

NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

*

IF YOU REALLY LOVED ME,

COME HOME,

SO LONG AS WE ARE TOGETHER,

NOTHING CAN STOP US NOW... 😎

T is for Thelma Plum

Do you ever get so sad you can’t breathe,

Nick Cave?

I don’t play that song anymore

We don’t talk about it

Backseat of my mind these days

Father said, Woke blokes made for you, Rosie

Ugly Monsters around here.

Wiseman.

Golden touch, cowboy in the rain

Breathe in breathe out

Young in love

The love I want

Back seat of my mind these days

We don’t talk about it

I don’t play that song anymore

Nick Cave,

Do you ever get so sad you can’t breathe?

Get the Kleenex out now! Ohh I felt this right through with "Do you ever get so sad you can't breathe?" You've got that internal rhyme going on here and the lines flow gently into each other. I don't think I have ever heard of Thelma so thank you for introducing new music to me Kate.
