The Kylie Greatest Hits according to Dick Whyte? I know… what happened with the girlband, but her career spans over decades so another one who got away! Everyone loves Kylie. Sad the new generations don’t know of her old classics. You have composed a great tribute with known and unknown Kylie songs. Into the Blue is a favourite so much more complex, full of pop and gorgeous than the Padam padam. Love how you got the poetry out of these songs. Another masterpiece from you. Lovely to have you here again and Happy New Year!
Haha - yeah, it was just the closest thing to a girlband/boyband I listened to when I was younger - and she was my absolute idol for a short time. So I thought it was close enough. I mean, in a way, Kylie was kind of like a one-person girl-band for Australasia haha. Aw thanks Pilgrim - it was fun to do another round with the song-title challenge. I tend to work better with single artist prompts, so often don't end up doing one for the other themes. Big Happy new year to you and yours too. 🖤
Thank you! Well, when I saw your song title poem, I realised that Kylie is a one girl’s band! It’s a brilliant idea and a surprise. So glad to have rediscovered Into the Blue and some other tracks I’d never heard of. You’re a prolific writer and a great one too so I’d expect you to come up with a way around the theme to get that one artist if that’s your thing like you did on this one. No pressure, you’re welcome to join always.
Haha! That is a fun take on the Theme. She's had an amazing career, for sure, and is constantly reinventing herself. I love this style of breaking the piece into numbered sections, too. Very nice... 😎👍
Okay, so here's a little contribution from me. This one is based on the songs of The Monkees, who are often described as one of the first manufactured boybands...
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The Monkees were a really fun band, who were mainly put together for the TV show, of course, but went on to do some great work. My favourite song they did, which I wasn't able to squeeze into this poem, is the amusingly titled 'Randy Scouse Git'. Although, because that was considered 'rude' at the time, it had to be known as 'Alternate Title' here in the UK, until recently. Haha... 😎
Ahh well, one of them was British, Davy Jones, who sang quite a few of the songs. Although, Micky Dolenz was the main singer. But the band is primarily seen as American, for sure, as they were put together over there... 😎
There's a theme you captured here in these songs! Never thought of WP as a girl band but they are! Great choices and lovely piece. Thank you! I need to check out Exposed, not heard of them or maybe I have and forgotten all about them. You could try and leave your own words out for next time. Just a tip. You just use the titles and you'll see it makes sense. If you want that is. Great to have you here with us! It's a quiet one this month.
Prince and the new revolution and his band! It’s a prince band and we’ll take it! So much flavour and aroma with the cherries and coffee. Gorgeous piece! Happy new year and well wishes to the sick one.
A lovely poem that fits together beautifully. And of course, it won't be long until May is here again. It'd be wonderful to do another big event this year. Although, to be fair, I still haven't finished revising and republishing my contributions from last year! Haha... 😎
Never was a NKOTB fan yet more than half of these songs I know and I just had to go and listen to Tonight. It's a remarkable song, still holds today. Thank you for this! They're are a great band. Thank you Kelly!
Yesssss! It's back for 2025! Another great theme there this month. Of course, The Beatles are often described as the first boyband, so there's quite a few ways to go with this one! Haha... 😎👍
Thank you @Pamela Leavey for restacking!
You are so welcome!
Kylie Minogue was my fav when I was 9 or 10, so here's a sequence of fragments for her (properly paginated here: https://substack.com/@forgottenpoets/note/c-84961943)

Cheers Chris 🖤 Yeah, I do a lot of poems made of numbered fragments. I really enjoy it as a form.
Yes we spoke about the numbered stanzas in the May song titles… didn’t we?
Sounds about right :-)
Okay, so here's a little contribution from me. This one is based on the songs of The Monkees, who are often described as one of the first manufactured boybands...
THE MONKEES (A Boyband Poem)
DON'T LISTEN TO LINDA,
FORGET THAT GIRL,
THE GIRL I LEFT BEHIND ME,
I LOVE YOU BETTER,
HEART AND SOUL,
WE WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER,
YOU AND I,
ALL ALONE IN THE DARK,
DO YOU FEEL IT TOO?
LET'S DANCE ON,
YOU JUST MAY BE THE ONE... 🐵😎🐵
That is a persuasive love note! The last line changes everything! Absolutely love this contribution!

Why did I think they were a British band?

Learnt something new here!
I want to hold your hand because she loves you . There's something in my life
That please, please me!
A yellow submarine will be Here there and everywhere for our ticket to ride to Penny Lane .
Strawberry fields forever, dear Prudence and hey Jude lets come together
For a hard days night!!!
Beatles now and then and forever ♥️
A fan for sure! What a lovely piece! Thank you Theresa!
Thank you for the opportunity'
I really enjoyed this one and yes, definitely
A fan!
Very nice! 'Here, There and Everywhere' is such a beautiful song... 😎👍
Yes, one of my favorites !
Every single one is a great song and the way you’ve put them together is like one tune!
A couple "girl bands" I listened to in the 90's, WP & Expose
Wilson Phillips
"Boyfriends"
when "You're in Love"
you feel so "Impulsive"
it's Hold On,
Release Me,
Give It Up,
You Won't See Me Cry!
give me "A Reason to Believe"
Is "The Dream is Still Alive"?
Expose(d)
"When I Looked At Him"(and he turned to me)
"Let Me Be The One," I begged him
We were heading to the "Point of No Return"
"Tell Me Why"
"What You Don't Know" might hurt you
Say it ain't true, the things that they've been saying,
They say that you've found someone new
But don't break my heart cos'
"Your Baby Never Looked Good In Blue"
So many times I swore,
As long as the stars shine down from the heavens,
As long as the river runs to the sea,
"I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me"
But...
"Seasons Change" (people change)
Just when I thought I'd given up,
"In Walked Love"
I found the one I've been dreaming of
"As Long As I Can Dream"
There's a better world and
I can see it shining on me.
Those two fit together very nicely, and the connecting themes work really well... 😎👍

Ok so I'm cheating a bit cos I'm sick with an oldie from our A-Z. I loved Prince as a teen, still do 30 years on!
Prince and the new revolution and his band! It’s a prince band and we’ll take it! So much flavour and aroma with the cherries and coffee. Gorgeous piece! Happy new year and well wishes to the sick one.
Thanks! Happy New year's, here's to more poeming and music 🎵
Yes! I should hope so and thank you!

You still have time!
That's very true! More will be appearing on my page before then, for sure... 😎👍
NKOT(Band)
"Call It What You Want"
I'm New Kids fangirl
(Cover Girl, Favorite Girl, Valentine Girl)
"This One's for the Children" of the late 80s/ early 90's to remember
"I'll be Loving You Forever"
"You've Got It (The Right Stuff)"
"Hangin' Tough"
"Step by Step" into my heart
"Tonight" on stage
"Baby, I Believe In You" (always)
If You Go Away" ("Please Don't Go")
-I'll wait a few years-
"Keep On Smiling"
Every time I listen to SiriusXM
"Bring Back the Time"
Summer tours and cruises
I'm an "80's Baby" all over again
"Remix (I Like It)"
I'm a New Kids fangirl, unapologetically,
I like "The Boys in the Band"
That beautifully captures those nostalgic feelings music from the past can stir up... 😎👍

Are you taking on the Beatles?
Haha! Well they do have hundreds of songs. So there's lots to work with... 😎
Epic poem!
Yes! 'The Divine Come-Di, Ob-La-Da'! Haha... 😎
