Or even "Late Week" SPAWN.

Just getting around to reading last weeks post now.

Do I share old posts?

Absolutely! It's a great way to get new eyes on the material. I used to repost on a rotating basis, but now I repost more often when there is another similar article posted elsewhere - for continuity of subject.

Do I market off Substack?

Of course - but selectively. I only use Twitter and Pinterest. But, I no longer create new Pinterest posts. Its just too time consuming to manage other social media.

New creative tool?

I'm not sure it counts, but I use Reedsy for writing and formatting my novels and memoirs. (Still hoping for release later this year).

This week I am not helping Mom so I might be around for the actual SPAWN time. Haha.

Until next time...

It's getting a bit like the American talk shows, really. We've got 'Late SPAWN', and then 'Late Late Spawn'! Haha! I've been hearing a lot of good things about Pinterest lately. Apparently, that's one a lot of creative people are migrating to and using, particularly for books, now Twitter/X and Facebook seem to be on the decline. I need to look into that one more. Have a great week... 😎👍

Well, winter is most definitely here. I’m in multiple layers and I’m still inside (my old Aussie house was built to dispel heat, not keep it in.).

1). Do you share old posts?

Sometimes, mostly the short stories, like the one I’ll be sharing today, although the reader will know more than at least one of the characters after reading it.

2). Do you market your Substack to people not on Substack? If so, how?

I used to on IG but got no follow through. I’ve had a YouTube channel for a while, and I’ve switched it to authortube which has probably confused the algorithm, but I have picked up a few subscribers there (like it’s doubled since I started the authortube posts, but are only talking from about 40 to 80). Per my Substack stats though, most of my new subscribers are coming from within the Substack app but I am not sure how accurate that is. If I follow a link and I open up the app and then subscribe, does it see it as an outside link or from within Substack? And how much wood would a woodchuck chuck?

3). Share a new creative tool that you have started using. I haven’t started using it yet, but a new to me tool is a cork board. Next week, I’m going to start brainstorming the last book in the series, and I will be vlogging it, so if you want unhinged, ya might want to check out my YouTube channel. Injustice posted the most recent YouTube video to my Substack yesterday.

It's fascinating how the seasons are reversed like that, and you're in multiple layers. I've got multiple fans running! Haha! I also definitely need to check out this authortube, and perhaps get one myself. It all sounds great... 😎

What temperatures are talking about Leanne? We had 32 degrees Celsius yesterday and it was hot hot hot in the sun!

Answering 1 and 2 together: No I have more than enough new stuff to send out to be ignored including on FB, Instagram and X. 😊

Haha! It does feel that way sometimes, for sure. Especially when there's people just putting 'Hello' on Notes, and getting thousands of likes. I've still got no idea how that keeps happening, and how those Notes get seen by that many people... 😎

It’s the algorithm!

I guess sometimes it giveth, and sometimes it taketh away. It's interesting where all those people are coming from, though. The extraordinarily high engagement on some of these Notes does suggest there's a lot of new users out there who are purely using that now, and not venturing into the actual Publications, but hopefully, there's still some who are planning to do both! Haha... 😎

Hi everyone!

Well, summer is definitely here. I was almost knocked back by the heat when I went outside earlier. It's 31C! Which is currently the same as Barbados. Haha!

This week's Haiku Prompt is the complete opposite of that. It's about 'lightning': https://chrisjfranklin.substack.com/p/house-of-haiku-prompt-lightning

Anyway, on to the questions... Do you share old posts? I've seen reminders about that coming up in the Dashboard, but I don't send them back out again, no. I do link to them quite a lot in new posts, though, especially when they're part of a series, and I do my yearly highlights and things where I show some of them again.

Do you market your Substack outside Substack? I did try to market a little on Social Media at the beginning, but it was fairly pointless. A few came on, but what tended to happen more often than not, was that anything with a link would just get suppressed so no one saw the posts. It's definitely worth mentioning you have a Substack as often as possible, and sticking a link in your profiles wherever you can, but really, you're much better off trying to build an audience with the people who are already here.

Share a new creative tool you've started using? Maybe something like 'Audacity'. That's one I've started using in the last year or so. It's really useful for editing audio things, and is much simpler to use than more professional recording software like 'Cubase' and so on. And it's free! 😎

I’ve never been able to use audacity! It’s too simple for me to understand that it gets complicated 😂

Haha! Well, to be fair, I did need to go on quite a few YouTube videos to figure everything out initially. But after that, I was able to get it to do things without too much trouble... 😎

I like the yearly highlights. There was a time when I was blogging on wordpress and there was a yearly summary of the posts. I did enjoy that and would live for Substack to have a medley of our posts at the end of the year. Does it take you long to prepare? What are your criteria?

That would be great if they prepared one for us, yes, and showed us a selection of things that performed the best over the year and so on. I usually pick a mixture of things that did well, alongside things I just liked the most, or that meant something special to me. It's just nice to look back over the year and revisit things. I'd say it probably took a couple of hours or so... 😎
